Punjab Govt Announces New Housing Scheme for Journalists

According to reports Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken a landmark step for the journalist community, announcing the provision of plots to 3,200 journalists. Maryam Nawaz has directed the Ministry of Information to immediately initiate the development of Journalist Colony Lahore Phase II, completing all legal processes to ensure the prompt allocation of plots to journalists.

According to reports Maryam Nawaz emphasized, “Journalists and the government are like two wheels of the same vehicle; providing plots to journalists is not a favor but their right.” The Punjab government introduced the initial scheme of this kind in Lahore in 2004, during Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s tenure as Chief Minister. The housing colony was located near Harbanspura on Canal Road.
